31: WestEnd Rules

Release Notes

What's new in 31, version by version.

Version 2.1.0
  • Plays by the WestEnd rules: the dealer is dealt four cards and discards one to start the game, just like at the table. A banner spells out which cards are wild ("All Queens are wild") and glows when you are holding one.
  • New look: the WestEnd Pros bot names and a walnut WestEnd card back are now the defaults. Players who already had the app are moved to them once, and can switch back any time in Settings.
  • Tap the discard pile to take it or the draw pile to draw. The piles glow on your turn. The "Use the action buttons" setting brings the buttons back.
  • Auto-organize: your hand sorts itself with a quick slide. It is on by default and can be turned off.
  • New sound effects and spoken lines in three voice styles, with separate Game sounds and Voice switches and a checkbox for every sound.
  • Auto-play and Easy finish: let the bots play on their own or pause before each bot's turn, and let the game settle your last draw (or turn that off and choose your own discard).
  • Pause for Settings: open Settings in the middle of a game and return to the same game with one tap.
  • Plus a cleaner table, better small-phone and iPad layouts, a choice of table layout the first time you play, help and support links inside the app, and a launch screen that no longer crops in landscape.
Version 1.0
  • Initial release: play 31 (also known as Scat or Blitz) solo against AI opponents, pass-and-play style.
  • Adjustable house rules, including an Extra Wild card, a Blind Knock Round, and an optional knock penalty.
  • A simple lives-based card game: no real money, no betting, and no purchases of any kind.
  • Compact, phone-friendly table for landscape play, alongside the classic full table view.
  • A guided in-app tour walks new players through setup and their first hand.
  • Built-in Full Rules reference and a Check My Math discard warning to help you avoid discard mistakes.
  • Undo option for your most recent action, plus custom bot names and card back themes.
